On Wednesday, 18 December 2025, Music Sector Six (MS6) conducted a provincial engagement in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, as part of its national programme of provincial visits.

The engagement brought together representatives of the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, provincial and regional music sector leadership, and MS6 council members. The purpose of the visit was to introduce MS6 to local stakeholders, strengthen relationships with provincial structures, and gain a grounded understanding of the state of the recording industry in Mpumalanga.

Programme Focus Areas

The programme focused on:

  • Outlining the formation, mandate, and objectives of Music Sector Six
  • Engaging on the current state of the provincial music sector, including structures, infrastructure, opportunities, and challenges
  • Aligning provincial priorities with national music industry development plans
  • Advancing coordination, accountability, and participation across the sector

Provincial Engagement Strategy

As part of its national mandate, MS6 works through provincial and genre-based music structures to ensure that recording artists and music businesses are organised, represented, and supported within a coherent development framework. Provincial engagements form a critical part of this work, allowing MS6 to listen, learn, and co-create solutions that reflect local realities.

The Mpumalanga visit contributes to MS6's broader objectives of sector transformation, governance reform, skills development, infrastructure support, intellectual property protection, and global competitiveness for South Africa's recording industry.
